Building Confidence through play at Fakenham Infant School

3 min read

In August, when as a team we completed our 100K push up challenge, we pledged to support a local group of young people, within an educational setting, with a focus on wellbeing - and it is for this reason, that we have recently contributed to a project to develop an outside wellness space for those children that have just returned into Y1 at Fakenham Infant School.

During the latter part of last term, when home-schooling became a normality for the majority, not just the few, some Children were only just beginning their school lives and the disruption and return to a home environment, when so much preparation had gone in to building and growing their confidence really set them back, particularly in light of the reasons for such drastic action.

In August, when as a team we completed our 100K push up challenge, we pledged to support a local group of young people, within an educational setting, with a focus on wellbeing -  and it is for this reason, that we have recently contributed to a project to develop an outside wellness space for those children that have just returned into Y1 at Fakenham Infant School – helping them to build their confidence once again through play, in a safe and structured outdoor area.

Laura Gray, early years teacher at the school said ‘Following the drastic action that we had to take in light of Covid19 last year and the ongoing safeguarding measures to prevent further spread, we really wanted to create a welcoming and calming space for the Children and what Grocott & Murfit and their Building Norfolk programme have provided is a wonderful contribution that we know will have an immensely positive effect for many years to come – helping children to build both their confidence and  mental resilience, through interactive and imaginary play activity.’

Mark Astle, an Estimator for Grocott & Murfit, who led the development of the project, said ‘We are once again delighted to support the local community with our Building Norfolk initiative and on a personal level, it has been a pleasure to deliver something that will make such an impact to the young people at the school as they try to regain a sense of near normality’.

The project was also supported by Inna Melnyk from locally based business ‘Inspire Interiors’ who made cushions for the outside area and helped in the coordination of the project.

Building Norfolk supports projects within 4 key pillars: Environment, Education, Wellbeing & Growth with the aim of protecting the community concept and ethos for the future generations who call Norfolk home.
