Grocott & Murfit is honoured to be named as the winner in Norfolk county within the ‘Residential Build’ category for a recent project in North Norfolk.
Jody Murfit, who has been project managing the build said ‘This project has been wonderful to bring to life and really does showcase our specialist knowledge of working with both traditional and innovative build materials and techniques. We believe we have an exceptional team, the best in the county, so we are delighted that their hard work has been recognised at this level.’
This property in Docking, North Norfolk, was the star of the show at the Mayor’s Design Awards in 2018. We won the ‘Single New Build Properties’ category and also won the overall Gold Award for our work.
We built this stunning new house to an existing design for a local family. The plot was set in a conservation area and our role included helping the client to comply with the various planning permission conditions, while helping our client to achieve their vision for their home.

At the 2016 Mayor’s Design Awards we received a ‘Highly Commended’ award for refurbishment schemes for this property on the North Norfolk coast. We partnered up with award-winning architects, Thomas Faire, to build an extension and renovate the existing property.
We constructed a large two storey extension and alterations to the existing property. Our client wanted to provide a light and spacious first floor living room with full height glazing and a glass balustrade so they could make the most of views to the sea beyond.

We won twice at the Mayor’s Design Awards in 2013-14 for work on this property in North Norfolk. We won the ‘Small Scale Single New Build Properties’ category and also won the overall Gold Award for our work.
We created a traditional looking brick and flint property that combined the latest in eco technologies, with light and spacious features in an environmentally sympathetic way.
Designed by Parsons + Whittley, we built this property to Passivehouse standards and reached the finals of the UK Passivehouse Awards 2016.
On top of this we won the LABC ‘East Anglia Building Excellence’ Award, and also won the Norfolk Association of Architects ‘New Residential Craftsmanship’ Award 2016.

We approached Grocott and Murfit to carry out a huge renovation project on Water Hall in December 2016, after they had build a beautiful new home in Little Snoring for my brother and sister-in-law.
We were impressed from the start and as our project evolved, we particularly appreciated the “inclusive” approach across their associated companies. We made extensive use of their joinery business for all our external doors, windows and internal fitted joinery and Arcadia for our kitchen and bathrooms. We spent time with their interior designer who helped immensely trying out colour schemes, finding light fittings and radiators, and even when asked to source things outside their normal remit like a unique carved front door we found that every detail was noted and what we received was exactly what we wanted. We had an excellent on site project manager and often met up with a company director on site to ensure we were fully satisfied.
This was a mammoth project, in addition to a substantial extension, all the existing ground floor was dug out to lay a new damp course and insulated concrete slab. All the external doors and windows were replaced and a new biomass boiler with underfloor heating installed to the entire property. Nothing was ever too much trouble and as the project continued the extras we requested were dealt with as if it was part of the original proposal.

They produced the design for the planning application, using design software to illustrate what several alternative designs would look like, which was extremely useful in making the final choice.
