A landmark of architectural ambition
Burnham Rise is a showcase of the collaborative spirit and precision that defines our work. Commanding one of North Norfolk’s most enviable positions, this exceptional design-led home pushes the boundaries of modern construction.

Burnham Rise
Standing proudly at the summit of Herrings Lane in Burnham Market, Burnham Rise is a distinctive design by Cowper Griffith Architects rooted in a trilogy of elements with classical proportions. Three individual pavilions, united by three magnificent chimney stacks, split into three parallel flues. The property is positioned to celebrate the site’s beautiful mature trees without compromising its breathtaking coastal vistas.
Three pavilions. One stunning home.
Realisation of this ambitious vision demanded meticulous planning, technical ingenuity and a shared vision between the architect, client and our team. We worked in close partnership to create three distinct zones. The west pavilion houses a private master suite with calming sea views, in the central core we created a dramatic double-height living space, and the smaller east wing functions as a gatehouse containing kitchen and utility areas.
Traditional materials with a contemporary twist.
Burnham Rise is constructed from a refined palette of materials, each needing care and expertise. Long thin bricks and traditional flint root the building in the local heritage, while sleek zinc cladding wraps the roof planes with crisp modernity. The three sculptural chimney stacks each contain an extraordinary 12,000 bricks creating a bold statement in the local landscape.
Complex structural challenges solved with precision.
One of the most demanding elements was the reinforced concrete ceiling, left deliberately exposed as both a structural element and striking design feature. Using fair-face shuttering techniques, we ensured a clean finish with all electrical services and pipework precisely positioned before pouring - a process that demanded absolute accuracy.
In the main living space, an unusual coffered timber ceiling demonstrates our team’s commitment to exceptional detailing. We established a temporary joinery workshop on-site to assemble and refine every element with millimetre accuracy.
We also worked closely with specialist partner Coulson Joinery to create Iroko panelling, oak columns, hardwood flooring and even a concealed secret bar that infuse warmth throughout the finished home.
“Finding a builder who I felt I could genuinely partner with, who shared the same sense of passion for detail and quality of finish, was key. Grocott & Murfit were superb, proving to be genuine craftsmen who cared about the end result. I could not be happier with the outcome.” BURNHAM RISE CLIENT
